What is Verified by VISA (VbV)?

Verified by Visa (VbV) is an e-commerce security solution that provides additional protection to members using their Visa Debit cards while shopping online.

What is changing?

Our arrangements with the current VbV vendor will expire in September 2010 and a new vendor has been appointed to provide this protection.

How does VbV work?

When an online purchase is made the transaction is assessed against a number of factors, relevant to establishing the likelihood of the transaction being a possible fraud.  If the transaction displays the characteristics of a higher risk transaction, members will be asked to provide additional information to authenticate the transaction, before the transaction is completed.  On very rare occasions the transaction may be automatically decined if it is considered extremely high risk.

How often will I be asked for additional information?

Very seldom will you be required to provide further information to authenticate your purchase.

Approximately 95% of purchases will occur without the need for any further information.

Approximately 5% of transactions will require members to authenticate the transaction by providing information (like date of birth) to confirm that they are the cardholder before the process can be completed.

On extremely rare occasions (approximately 0.02%) of the time transactions may be automatically declined due to them being very high risk.

What information will I be asked for if one of my purchases requires authentication?

You will not be required to remember any new user names or passwords.

Instead you will be asked for information within your personal domain such as your date of birth or credit union member number.

Do I need to enroll in the new VbV program?

No.  QTCU has enrolled all current Visa debit cards in the VbV program and unlike the previous arrangements, you are not required to register for the program online.

Are there any costs to me for this additional protection?

No.  This additional security benefit is provided to you free of charge by QTCU. 

Who should I contact if I experience problems with my account?

If your transaction has been auto declined or declined after the submission of inaccurate authentication information you should contact a member of the Contact Centre on 13 29 30 for further assistance.

What authentication information is an secondary cardholder required to provide?

The secondary cardholder must provide details of the embossed name on the card, the membership number on the card and the DOB of the member whose membership number appears on the card, (ie: the primary cardholder)
